Working with a mid-centruy terrace in South London Khan Bonshek were approached to propose a loft conversion with a difference. Their solution utilises a permeable timber stair screen to organise the proposals and bring texture, warmth and light through the vertical circulation of the house.

The Clients interest in ceramics and work as an illustrator have been incorporated into the materiality of the project, culminating in collaboration with bespoke tiles and fabricated elements.

The Douglas Fir stair screen becomes a Swiss army knife, providing enclosure, guarding, storage and a pathway for natural light to permeate through the plan.
